Exhaled nitric oxide test (FeNO)
What is it and what does it measure?
It is a simple technique in which the patient has to blow through a mouthpiece gently and evaluates the fraction of exhaled nitric oxide, a gas produced by the epithelial cells that line the inside of the airways.
What is it for?
Essentially to detect inflammation of the airway, with this we can diagnose bronchial asthma, monitor the response to inhaled treatment, evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment and predict exacerbations.
