Pulmonary diffusion (DLCO)
What is it and what does it measure?
The carbon monoxide diffusing capacity (DLCO) test is simple and non-invasive for the patient and measures the transfer of the gas from the alveoli to the red blood cells and is measured by obtaining a sample at the end of expiration.
DLCO Importance
The interpretation of DLCO, in conjunction with spirometry and lung volumes, contributes to the evaluation of underlying lung diseases and to establish a differential diagnosis and close follow-up in patients with pulmonary manifestations.
